New Year Beginnings 2023

This year I decided not to party and spend all night out drinking myself to a silly place and spend the next day regretting that decision. Not that I had done that very often since having kids. This year was different, I was recently separated from my wife and living at a friend’s house and focused on my wellbeing. This included a lot of running as it was a way to help me deal with the crap my ex was doing. In short, she was stopping the kids from seeing me and had launched into a full-blown attack on my character with false allegations of family violence. You can read more about that here.

When my sister offered to meet me at dawn for a run along the beach as a good and healthy way to start the year, I could hardly say no. It was a hot night and set to be a hot New Year’s Day. Got a good night’s sleep instead of seeing in the turn of the clock and left the house while it was still dark and got a park at Glenelg South. The plan was to run down to meet her at Brighton, run with her for a bit then run back to the car afterwards. The plan was executed perfectly, and we couldn’t help comparing how different our bodies are doing similar cardio work. While she is 6 years younger than me, my heart rate conditioning to cardio is at a much higher tolerance. “I lucked out of the genes” is something she would say. This keeps things in perspective for me and helps drive me to take advantage of the body I have been given and how amazing it is.

A perfect way to start the new year and set the tone for how it should go moving forward.
