Perry’s dad took Lego mini-figure Peter with him on a work trip.

This a picture story designed to connect with my son when I’m far away by sharing the adventure

Minifigure Peter’s Adventures

Let me introduce Peter, he was born in the Lego store at Marion and was made by his creator, Perry Smith. Despite the mean looking face, he is a kind-hearted mini figure that gets up to some adventures when Perry is away from his dad. This is a story about his adventures on with Perry’s dad who has gone away for work to Sydney.

Peter is part of a family that includes several other mini figures. They were all created by Perry and his brother Roscoe and live at their dad’s house. They like to gather around and talk about the items they are carrying. All the mini figures have a story of their own and get up to their own adventures. Peter loves all his fellow mini figure family, and they miss their creator when they go away.

Before we could take off on our adventures to Sydney, we had to go past Perry’s great grandma’s house to say happy birthday. She was turning 93 years old. Peter just had to come along when he found out there was going to be cake.

Great nan picked up Peter and thought he looked very cute and could stay for cake.

Peter enjoyed talking with the family and being involved with the conversation. He very much loved the cake, it was caramel flavoured, his favourite.

After that it was time to go home and pack our clothes, shoes and toothbrush for our trip on an airplane. Peter had not been on a plane before and was very excited.

It was very early in the morning when Perry’s dad got out of bed to get ready to leave for the airport. Peter was excited and ready to go very quickly. He jumped into the bag and we got a taxi to the airport.

As soon as we got the airport we had to put all our bags onto a conveyer belt to make sure we weren’t carrying anything dangerous. Peter stayed in the bag and pulled funny faces at the security guard as he went through the scanner.

After that it was time to wait for our flight to be called. Peter wanted to get a photo for Perry in the departure lounge but Dad took the photo too quick before Peter could get his helmet on correctly. “Take it again” cried Peter, “I look silly”. It wasn’t long after the photo a lady came on the speakers and told us it was time to get on the plane.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Peter looked out the window and could see the baggage handlers loading all our luggage under the plane. We could see the other planes at the airport coming in and going out. It was so busy. Peter was fascinated with all the activity and just loved being so close to the plane. “Take may photo with that one” said Peter pointing to the plane next to us. “It’s time to sit in our seats now” said Dad to Peter, “The plane will take off soon and there will be some scary noises before we do. It’s all normal”.

Just then the lady at the front of the plane started talking over the speakers telling us we’re almost ready to go and showed us how to inflate our lifejacket. “I hope we don’t need to do that!” exclaimed Peter to Dad. Peter was so excited to hear the whirring of the engines as that meant it was time to take off. The plane started moving slowly down the runway until it came to a stop.

Peter looked at Dad with a worried look on his face. “It’s ok mate,” said Dad. “Hang on it’s about to start”. With that the cabin shook, the noise got louder, and Peter could suddenly feel the back of his seat as the plane accelerated down the runway at speed. “Weeee!” cried Peter, “this is awesome, my jetpack can’t even do that!”. The rumbling only took a few moments until we were in the air looking down at the lights of our home city Adelaide.

When it was our turn to board the plane, we had to walk outside onto the tarmac to the back of the plane. We came so close to the plane that we could see the jet engines and the shiny body. “This is so cool” said Peter, “I can’t wait to see the inside”. The wings are so long and the tail is so high up. As we made our way up the stairs we were greeted by a lady who pointed us to our seats. “Buckle up Dad, this is going to be great” said Peter with excitement.

Soon enough the lady came onto the speakers again to tell us how long we’ll be in the air for and when we are going to land in Sydney. “I love flying in planes” said Peter to Dad as he looked out the window. The sun was up now and the plane was above the clouds. “My jetpack can’t get me this high up” Peter said as he continued to peer out the window with amazement.

“Can you take another photo of me please dad” asked Peter. I need to remember this view, it’s amazing. There was a screen on the back of the seat showing a picture of Australia and where the plane was at the time.

And with that a lady with this big trolley came past and asked if we’d like something to eat or drink. “What, we get food too” asked Peter in further amazement. “Yep, we sure do” replied Dad, “Would you like something? I’m going to have a coffee and something to eat”. “I’ll have an orange juice please” said Peter to the lady. She was so nice to put it in a special cup for me. I don’t get orange juice when I use my jetpack.

I’m so glad dad put me in his pocket as it we had to walk to the other end of the airport to get our luggage. It had been a while since dad had been to the toilet, so he said he needed to go before we got our luggage. He said that it takes some time for them to get everyone bags off the plane, so we had plenty of time. Since I’m a Lego man, I don’t need to go to the toilet, but humans have to go when they need. Humans are weird.

After the toilet time we made our way to the luggage pickup area. This was so cool; it was a moving belt that brought everyone’s luggage around. I wanted to get on the moving belt, but dad said that it wasn’t safe and offered to take my photo instead. Our luggage came out first which dad said was lucky. He picked it up and we headed outside to get a taxi to his work office.

Before long the lady came on the speakers again saying it was time to get ready to land. We had to be seated and I could feel the plane start to come down. “Why do my ears feel like that dad?” said Peter holding his ears. “Thats what happens when the plane goes up and comes down. It’s ok and normal, I like to chew on something and that helps my ears pop” responded dad. As Peter peered out the window he could see the houses and roads of Sydney down below. “The cars look so tiny from up here” said Peter still peering out the window with fascination.

The plane came close to the ground and with a bump it began to rumble and shake. Peter lurched forward as the plane got on the ground and started to slow down. “We’re here!” cried Peter with excitement as the pilot announced the weather in Sydney and the current time. We all got up out our seats and went out the front of the plane this time. There were lots of people trying to get out the plane but we all took it in turns to make our way to the airport. “It’s now time to get our luggage Peter” said Dad, “best I pop you into my pocket for this bit”. Peter hopped into Dad’s pocket watching the bustling of the airport around him.

The taxi driver took us right to the hotel that dads work has made a booking in. Dad says we’re staying here for a few nights. As dad was talking to the lady at the front desk of the hotel, I noticed a football in a box and asked dad to take a photo of it for me. The ladies thought I was really cute too and allowed me to stay with my dad. They told me we could go for a swim in the pool if we wanted to. I love swimming but dad said we need to meet his work colleagues first.

We arrived at a line-up of cars that were waiting to take us to our destination. Dad was talking to the driver telling him where his office is, I couldn’t understand what he was saying but the taxi driver knew exactly where to go and took off. The driver was really nice and said hello to me and commented on my hat. He was telling us all about the new road we were driving on which turned into a big tunnel. The driver said that this tunnel made the journey to work so much quicker.

While dad was working and meeting with his work mates, I wandered around the office talking to some of the other people in the office. All of dads work colleagues are really nice and welcomed me to the office. They had lots of meetings and one of them was growing an avocado from a seed in a glass of water in the window. I asked dad for another photo. When dad finished all

The hotel was really close to dad’s work, so we walked across the road to his office building. All the buildings here are so tall with lots of windows. Dad met his work friend out the front of the building and he said we need to go up to level 11 and had to go in the elevator first. There was a big number on wall as we came out the elevator, so I asked dad to take a photo of me on top of the biggest number I’ve ever seen.

When dad finished all his meetings it was time for lunch. We went for a walk down the street amongst the big, tall buildings together talking to each other. When we got back to the office, we all ate lunch together at the table. Some of the men I talked with said they were flying to my home city very soon and want me to come out for lunch again.

After lunch dad had some more meetings to get to and he let me use his phone to take some more photos. It took me a while but I managed to take a photo of Sydney from dads work. If you look closely, over my left shoulder is the tall buildings of Sydney. From up here you can see forever. It was now the end of the day and time to go back to the hotel for the night. Dad was pretty tired and so was I, it has been a busy day.

Dad said we’re going to have to go to the airport this afternoon after work. “Can I go over to the river and have a look around?” asked Peter. “That sounds like a good idea, it’s a nice sunny day” replied dad. “Use your jetpack to cross the street, stay in sight of the building and don’t talk to strangers” he said. “Thanks dad, I’ll come back soon”. “See ya mate” dad said as he went into the office with his workmates. Peter flew over to river to check it out.

I am a Lego man, so I don’t need to sleep but humans do, and they need lots of sleep. Dad went to bed nice and early and I sat on the top of the alarm clock waiting for him to wake up. “Come on dad, time to get up and go to work again” Peter said as dad rubbed his eyes and yawned “good morning, Peter. I hope you had a good night while I slept”. “I’m so excited to go back to the office again, are we going there again?” asked Peter with excitement. “We sure are” replied dad, “I just need to have a shower and then we can go”.

“I have a little bit more to do then it’s time to go back to the airport” said dad. “But you can help me finish typing up the last report if you like”. “Wow, can I really!” exclaimed Peter. “Yeah sure, I need to calculate some numbers, do you like to do maths?” asked dad. “Cool, it’s my favourite subject” replied Peter. “Jump up here on my computer and we can do this together,” said dad. Dad’s work friends were so impressed with the help Peter gave him and they all wanted him to help but it was time to go back to the airport and go home.

Peter came back from the river and used his jetpack to cross the street just like dad said. When he got to the building he couldn’t get into the elevator and past the gates as he didn’t have a pass. Peter jumped up to the desk and said to the security man “can you let my dad know I’m here please?”. “What level does he on and I’ll call him down for you?” replied the security guard. “Oh I remember!” cried Peter, “It’s level eleven, it even has a big number on the wall”. And with that the man at the desk called dad down to come get Peter. “Did you have a good time?” asked dad. “Yes I did dad, the river was nice. Have you got much more work to do? Can I help?” asked Peter.

It seemed like it all happened so quickly this time and before we knew it, we were getting ready to land in Adelaide again. “Thanks for taking me on the plane dad” said peter “I had a really fun time with you seeing your work office in Sydney”. “So did I” replied dad, “I’m glad you got to come with me”. “So what did you think of the plane? It’s not so scary is it” asked dad. “Nah, I want to go on lots of plane rides with you, I think Perry would love to come too. Do you think we can take him on a plane with my other Lego minifigure family?” asked Peter looking at dad. “You know what Peter,” said dad, “I think Perry would love to go on a real plane and maybe next time we bring Richard with us”. “That would be great, I can’t wait for our next adventure”

We took another taxi back to the airport and got there early so we could have a snack before we get on the plane. Peter wasn’t scared of the plane anymore and knew what to do. The airport was busy with lots of people looking for planes to catch and we waited until the lady called our gate number to start boarding.
