My Fitness Journey

My journey to rediscover my fitness ability started again in 2021. I turned 39 that year and made a short-term commitment to myself. To be in the best shape of my life by the time I turn 40. That gave me 12 months to transform my body from dad bod to active dad.

What I didn’t know at the time is how much more a simple goal would transform my life in other ways. I'll explore this in future blog posts.

Previous attempts at keeping a gym or fitness routine would always fall by the wayside but inevitably return every other year or so. Sometimes running, sometimes cycling, sometime gym. I had it in me to know what to expect when exercising, it was that commitment to myself and finding a way to be accountable to myself that has driven the motivation. Bit by bit, getting the confidence up from noob to know-what-you’re-doing. Data was my jam; I love to analyse the data from my workouts and then make adjustments based on the feedback my body gave me.

What I’ve learnt about this journey is that it’s ok to change your goals, always re-assess and refocus your efforts. At the end of the day its a race against yourself and everyone is on their own journey. When I started, I had an ambitious goal of doing Iron mans or triathlons as a way to have a purpose to the fitness routines transforming my body. It was a lofty goal and something I would have to put back and reassess to what was achievable. Maybe one day I’ll get to that point but the purpose of this journey is to do activities that feed into my wellbeing goals but not in a way that takes away from the other things in my life. Balance is key here and there’s been some ups and downs along the way. Joys, disappointment and injuries will all be written about in this blog in a raw honest account from my perspective.

Come with me on this journey that has literally kept me going from strength to strength and ride the rollercoaster of emotions along the way.
